Affidavit of Support

Form I-134. Well this one is a bigger pain than I realized. I need an official Work statment summing up my income. I need a bank statment detailing when My account was opened and activity on it for an extended period of time. Oh yeah... and this all has to be notoraized or witnessed by an official of Homeland Security Immigration services. Yikes. Well on the brighter Side Suzie got her Police forms back already and so the affidavit of support is the last piece of the puzzle before we can request an interview date.

In our Case the exact requirements where a statement from my place of work that I am gainfully employed, How long for and and what I currently make on company letter head.... if only that is what I made, looks so much more impressive Pre-Tax.

The other piece of information was 12 months of Bank Statements and history of my account such as total deposits, Date Opened Etc... On official bank letterhead.

If you have stocks bonds etc... you need that information as well. In addition to stuff like the value of any property you own etc...

Oh yeah and the form filled out. It asks for much the same information that they already have. In addition to some very minute financial history information. What I really don't get is why they need to ask ? This is the government and I do have to file my financial status with government agencies and make a yearly one about my income. These guys no my money situation better than I do. All a bank needs to check my financial status is my social security number. The govermnet for immigration purposes seems to need me to spell it out. Amazing. Hopefully they are not going to require a bond. I probably have a means to deal with that if it comes up but it would be very silly if it is required. Especially as for the folks they are likely to require one from the money needed to make the bond may actually put them in greater danger of becoming a ward of the state rather than less.

Affidavit of supportis a legal contract between someone who is applying for the adjustment of status, and your sponsor. This contract is necessary to be provided with your application to the USCIS. It ascertains that you have adequate means to support you financially and would not become a public charge.

Affidavit of support is a very important document in a visa application. It can be used for applying for an adjustment of status or could be required in the immigrant and non-immigrant visa application.

Permanent Permanent Resident

Been a while since the last post but we wanted to report that as of October 2009 the processes of removing conditional status has been completed. Suzie is now a permanent permanent resident of the United States. Start to finish it was about 4 years. This was good as we had tickets booked for our first trip abroad since our marriage in 2006 for November '09 and having card that didn't say it was expired was good peace of mind... and joy of joys they got the name right this time. The Paperwork

There is no garountee this informatin is accurate. If you need help I advise you get an immigration attourney to consult with about your specific case. I am simply putting out what I have learned from various sources to document what our understanding is of the process in front of us. The K1 process is all about paperwork. For starters you need two pieces of paperwork. First The i129-f petition for alien fiance. This piece of paper is filled out buy the US citizen and filed with the appropriate USCIS center. The filing fee is $170 dollars. Second The G-325a biographic information supplement. Not to be confused with plain old G-325, or G-325b or G-325c. It is a requested suplement to go with i129-f. You need one for each person involved in the petetion. IE the requestor fills one out, the fiance fills one out, and the fiances children if required. RFI and Misc

Our Change of Status Paperwork has been pulled off the shelf well ahead of when we expected it so perhaps the consolidation in Chicago has been a good thing. We did recieve a request for more information as it seems the fact they had proof of an approved K-1 was not enough. They also needed the I-797 notice of actioni that I had filed a K-1 on Suzie's behalf. Not sure I have the energy to go all out on that like I should but by all means it speaks for itself. They had proof and records in their system of a valid K-1 to the effect it allowed entry into the countr and yet they not only need that but the early round notice of action that the K-1 had indeed been filed. If we do not send the information then our application is to be cancled. Needless to say we have mailed it but it really seems silly.
